About Ms. Moncatch

Greetings!

I'm very excited to have you as a student this year! I am very much looking forward to working with you throughout your 5th grade year and learning all about you! But I thought maybe you'd like to learn a bit about me too! I grew up in Addison, IL, which is actually just 10 miles west of Oak Park down North Avenue. But, after I attended the University of Illinois where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, I moved to Chicago. Now, I live in Bucktown with my pup, Khaki!
The 2016-2017 school year will be my 8th year teaching. For the first 6 years I had the pleasure of teaching math, science, and reading at Julian Middle School. Last year was my first year at Mann and I absolutely loved it! When I am not in the classroom I enjoy coaching the VEX robotics team, twirling batons with the Westernettes, going on walks with Khaki, and partaking in outdoor activities (going to the beach, reading on my deck, watching movies in the park).
While in the classroom I have to admit that math is one of my favorite subjects! I love the rigor and mental struggles that occur while solving challenging problems. I am really hoping to show you how amazing math is when you use a variety of strategies to persevere through problems. I also very much love the creativity that comes with writing and the conversations that arise from reading a good novel. The books from my summer reading list has been simply amazing this summer, I can't wait to hear what you've read and get your suggestions of other good books! Well until we meet, enjoy the rest of your summer and I know we are going to have a fantastic school year!
